Carson is a 1982 graduate of Wesleyan University and has a Master's degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. He has been with New England Waterproofing since 2002, and in the waterproofing trade since 1986. Carson is a die-hard Red Sox fan and is still playing ball in two amateur baseball leagues.
